Amarillo Police Department officers are participating in Rail Safety Week.
According to APD, on Tuesday, September 24th, APD officers, the Amtrak Police Department, and Operation Lifesaver will participate in “Operation Clear Track,” along with more than six-hundred law enforcement agencies from across the nation. The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness for railroad crossing and trespassing laws. This program is being conducted in 48 states and is the largest rail safety law enforcement program in the United States.
During “Operation Clear Track” APD officers will be stationed at railroad crossings to issue citations or warnings to violators. Officers will also distribute rail safety cards to motorists and pedestrians.
The goal of the program is to reduce injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks.
