Amarillo Police executed 14 search warrants recently in an effort to crack down on illegal gambling.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers from the APD Specialized Operations Division and Neighborhood Policing Unit conducted 14 search warrants on illegal gambling operations in Amarillo. Officers say operations that were shut down were not only operating illegally, but were also magnets for other criminal activities.
During the operation, officers made three arrests, seized $105,012 in cash, four guns, 234 gambling devices, and illegal drugs, including meth, cocaine, and THC.
In a statement, APD Chief Martin Birkenfeld said APD is committed to continuing to fight illegal activities in Amarillo, including illegal gambling.
“illegal gambling operations have consistently been havens for crime including robberies and drug dealing,” Birkenfeld said. “They also prey on people who can least afford to lose money using unscrupulous practices. The Amarillo Police Department is committed to keeping our city safe, and this is one of the many priorities that we will continue to monitor and enforce to meet the expectations of our community.”
