Incumbent District 15 State Board of Education member Marty Rowley has endorsed Republican Jay Johnson to be his successor in 2020.
Rowley wrote in a Facebook post published Wednesday night that he is supporting Johnson, a former Pampa Independent School District trustee, for the job. Johnson is unopposed in his primary and will face Democrat John Betancourt, a former Amarillo Independent School District trustee, in the November election.
“I am happy to endorse Jay and urge all of you to support him as well,” Rowley said.
This election will mark the first new SBOE member for the district since 2013. Rowley won the seat in 2012, beating Anette Carlisle in the Republican primary and Democrat Steven D. Schafersman in the general election. Rowley was unopposed for re-election in 2016.
