Two businesses affiliated with Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson contributed to the campaign pushing a favorable vote on Proposition A, according to finance reports filed this week with the City of Amarillo.

According to the finance report filed by Build Amarillo PAC for the fundraising cycle running from September 25 through October 24, Amarillo Building LLC and KAMP Hotels LLC both contributed $2,500 to the PAC. Both contributions were received on September 28, 2020, according to the campaign’s financial report.

The two entities were listed as sources of occupational income for Nelson and her husband, according to a financial statement the Mayor filed with the City of Amarillo in 2017.

KAMP Hotels is a hotel franchisee operating two MyPlace Hotel locations — one in Amarillo and another in Lubbock. According to Potter-Randall Appraisal District records, Amarillo Building LLC is listed as the property owner of the historic Amarillo Building on South Polk Street in downtown Amarillo, which houses a number of professional offices.

Both entities are listed on the finance report as being located at 301 South Polk, which is the address of the Amarillo Building.

The contributions by the two businesses affiliated with the Mayor come as Amarillo voters are set to decide the fate of Proposition A, a $275 million bond to fund the majority of a $319 million spending package for downtown projects.

Build Amarillo PAC reported $112,075 in contributions in its most recent finance report, including a $30,000 contribution from the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, which has endorsed the campaign. Meanwhile, Build Amarillo PAC is being opposed by Save Amarillo PAC, which is asking voters to vote against Proposition A and two other propositions aimed at changing City Council structure. According to the latest finance report for Save Amarillo, the against campaign reported raising $200,840 during the most recent reporting period.

Early voting in this election continues through Friday, October 30. Election Day is November 3.
