According to new numbers from NBC News, voters who have affiliated with the Republican Party in recent primary elections are leading the voter turnout charge in Texas this year.
Thus far, Republican-leaning voters have comprised 53% of the total Texas turnout, according to NBC’s new data. Meanwhile, Democrats are making up about 37% of the state’s 2020 turnout, with “other” voters making up about 10% of the electorate.
Because Texas does not require voters to register with an individual party, affiliation in NBC News’ survey is based on previous primary election affiliation.
Outside of party affiliation, voters aged 50-64 have made up the largest share of Texas’ 2020 turnout, representing 29% of the in-person and mail-in turnout. Voters aged 18-29 make up the smallest share of the total 2020 turnout in Texas, representing just 13%.
Election Day is November 3.
