Cornyn Leads Hegar in New Texas Poll

Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is leading his Democratic challenger MJ Hegar in Texas’ race for U.S. Senate with just a few weeks left to go before Election Day.

The new poll from Public Policy Polling has Cornyn up by three points in Texas, 49-46%. The two other candidates in the race, Libertarian Kerry Douglas McKennon and Green Party contender David B. Collins were not included as options in the poll.

Pollsters also found both Cornyn and Hegar holding net positive favorable ratings among Texas voters. Cornyn is rated favorably by voters, 39-37%, while Hegar is rated favorably, 32-29%.

Early voting in the contest runs through October 30. Election Day is November 3.
