Texas Senators Vote Against Impeachment

Texas’ U.S. Senators joined a majority in the U.S. Senate today in acquitting President Donald Trump of both articles of impeachment brought forward by the U.S. House.

On Wednesday, U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz joined Republican majorities in voting to stop the efforts to convict Trump. In the first article on abuse of power, Senators voted 48-52 to defeat the article, with U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) casting the lone Republican vote for removal. Senators then voted strictly down party lines on the second article of impeachment on obstruction of Congress, defeating the measure 47-53.

Following the vote, Cruz took to Twitter to announce the result.

“We have a #Verdict,” Cruz wrote in the tweet. “President @realDonaldTrump has been acquitted by the U.S. Senate on both Articles!”
