Gov. Greg Abbott has issued an executive order aimed at tracking hospital bed capacity and COVID-19 testing statewide.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Abbott announced the new order, which requires all Texas state-run hospitals, except for psychiatric hospitals, to submit daily reports on hospital bed capacity to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). The executive order also requires every public or private entity utilizing an FDA-approved COVID-19 test to submit daily reports of test results to DSHS and local health departments. The order goes on to say information provided to DSHS on testing results will be provided to the CDC.
