Gov. Greg Abbott has issued an executive order instituting a mandatory 14-day quarantine for some travelers coming to the Lone Star State.
According to the executive order, travelers coming from a point of origin or point of last departure in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or the City of New Orleans shall be subject to a mandatory self-quarantine for fourteen days or for the duration of the person’s presence in Texas. The executive order also leaves it open where visitors from other destinations could be subject to the quarantine in the future.
The executive order includes exceptions for those traveling in connection with military service, emergency response, health response, or critical-infrastructure functions, as may be determined by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Those required to self-quarantine will be responsible for all associated costs, including transportation, lodging, food, and medical care, according to Abbott’s executive order.
