Former U.S. Senate hopeful Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez has endorsed State Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) in the hotly contested Democratic runoff for Senate.
Tzintzún Ramirez announced the endorsement at a press conference with West on Monday and elaborated on her endorsement in a series of tweets Monday night. In her tweets, the former Senate candidate and Democratic organizer said she believes West can “build the broad, multiracial coalition that we need to defeat John Cornyn in November.”
Tzintzún Ramirez was one of a number of Democrats who sought the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate in the March 3 primary, although she finished about 25,000 votes shy of securing her spot in the runoff. The second place finisher, West, is a longtime lawmaker who is facing former congressional candidate MJ Hegar in the May 26 runoff.
The winner of the runoff will face the Republican incumbent John Cornyn and a Libertarian candidate in November.
