Hair salons and gyms will be among the next businesses allowed to open in Texas, according to an announcement by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Abbott announced on Tuesday that hair salons will be allowed to open on Friday across Texas. Abbott’s announcement comes as attention has been paid across Texas to the case of Salon A La Mode in Dallas, which reopened despite shelter in place orders across the state. Salon owner Shelley Luther was ticketed by Dallas authorities and eventually given seven days in jail on Tuesday after refusing to apologize for reopening her salon. The Salon A La Mode story has attracted national attention as supporters of Luther have supported her keeping her salon open.
Meanwhile, Abbott also set a reopening date for gyms. Gyms will be allowed to reopen at 25% capacity on May 18, but shower and locker room facilities are required to stay closed.
Abbott also set guidelines on Tuesday for reopening office buildings and manufacturers at 25% capacity.
