Former lobbyist Josh Winegarner is out with a brand new ad this week, slamming former White House Physician and retired Real Admiral Ronny Jackson.

In the ad, which has appeared on local television stations across the 13th Congressional District before being released in an email to supporters on Wednesday, attacks Jackson for allegations about his professional conduct, which were raised during Jackson’s nomination to become Secretary of Veterans Affairs in 2018. The ad goes on to claim Jackson’s congressional campaign is a “backup plan,” following his military promotions and cabinet nomination under President Donald Trump.

Winegarner’s campaign appears to be doubling down on their negative strategy against Jackson, even as former congressional candidates and veterans have criticized Winegarner’s negative strategy as being critical of Jackson’s military service. This is the second attack released by Winegarner targeting Jackson this week, following a Monday statement in which Winegarner attacked Jackson for praise he received from Democrats.

Voters will decide the Republican primary runoff for U.S. House District 13 on July 14.
