Two attorneys are back on the ballot in the Republican primary runoff election, squaring off in a rematch to decide who will serve in the Place 4 justice seat on the 7th Court of Appeals.
Amarillo criminal defense attorney Steven Denny and incumbent appointee Justice Larry Doss are back on the ballot ahead of the July 14 election after an error with the first round of election results caused a court to order a redo on the election. Denny and Doss previously faced off in the Republican primary for the seat on March 3, with Denny winning a victory of around 300 votes out of more than 90,000 cast. However, that contest’s results were thrown out after it was revealed that two counties in the district, Cochran and Collingsworth, left the race off of the ballots completely.
Now, both candidates are hoping that luck will be in their favor in a race that has flown mostly under-the-radar among the hype surrounding the primary showdown between Ronny Jackson and Josh Winegarner for U.S. House District 13.
Early voting runs until July 10, with Election Day slated for July 14.
