Amarillo Citizens to Protest Tax Increase

A group of Amarillo citizens are expected to gather at the Amarillo Civic Center on Tuesday morning to protest the Amarillo City Council’s third and final vote on raising taxes for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

According to an event page on Eventbrite.com, citizens will participate in a Drain the Amarillo Swamp rally on Tuesday, advocating for “less taxes, more freedom.” The citizens are encouraged “to tell Amarillo Matters and the elitist political insiders to keep their hands off our hard earned money” at bring homemade signs to support their cause.

The rally will begin at 11am on Tuesday at the Amarillo Civic Center Grand Plaza in downtown Amarillo. The City Council’s meeting on raising taxes will begin at noon. Citizens who are concerned about the tax increase may also sign up to speak to Council during the meeting by calling the City Secretary’s office before 11:45am at (806) 378-3014 or by going to this link.
