The Texas Supreme Court put a stop on a plan this week by one Texas county to mail applications to vote-by-mail to over 2 million voters.
Justices halted the plan after Harris County’s county clerk had planned to send over 2.3 million vote-by-mail applications to voters in the county, including to those who might not otherwise be eligible to vote-by-mail in Texas. As Texas Scorecard reports, the news came as a result of a lawsuit filed this week by Dr. Stephen Hotze and Sharon Hemphill.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has also filed a lawsuit over Harris County’s plan.
Under current Texas law, the only voters who may vote-by-mail are those who are 65 or older, disabled, out of the county during the period to vote, or those who are confined to a county jail, but otherwise eligible to vote.
