Businessman Michael Hunt Launches Campaign for Amarillo Mayor

Catering company owner Michael Hunt has launched his campaign to become the next mayor of Amarillo.

On Monday, Hunt announced his campaign for mayor, promising to put a priority focus on customer service at City Hall.

“I am running for Mayor to give the citizens a choice of leadership with a different perspective,” Hunt said. “I am willing to put my business and customer service experience to work for Amarillo as part of a new leadership team, giving backing to this great city that has shown me and my family such care over the last thirty years.”

Hunt also says he will place an emphasis on issues like supporting small business, improving infrastructure, attracting new business to Amarillo, supporting and expanding Amarillo’s police and fire departments, reforming Animal Management & Welfare and establishing a no-kill animal shelter, promoting fiscal responsibility, and establishing Amarillo as a tourist destination. With a focus on these issues, Hunt believes Amarillo can grow and prosper, all while staying true to his “common-sense” business practices.

“I have a tremendous love for Amarillo and I would be honored to be a part of the future growth and success that this new decade has to offer our city and all of its residents,” Hunt said. “If you are ready to send a common-sense businessman to work for you, I humbly ask for your support as Mayor on May 1st.”

Hunt is the owner of Michael’s Barbeque Shack, a local catering company that has served thousands of local customers. He is also a graduate of Canyon High School, West Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University.

With Hunt’s entry into the race, he is the fourth candidate to announce a campaign for Amarillo top elected office this year. Incumbent Mayor Ginger Nelson and challengers Claudette Smith and Jeffrey McElerath have also announced campaigns for the office.

Filing for spots on the ballot begins Wednesday.. Election Day is May 1.
