Scherlen Announces Campaign for Amarillo City Council Place 3

Tom Scherlen is the latest candidate to join the race for a seat on the Amarillo City Council.

On Monday, Scherlen announced his campaign for the Place 3 seat on the City Council, saying he will be placing an emphasis on “putting common-sense management to work for local taxpayers at City Hall.”

“As your next City Councilman, I plan on getting out there and seeing first-hand how all of our City departments operate,” Scherlen said. “I have learned in my years of management that a lot of times the people doing the job have the best ideas to share that will save both time and money.”

According to his press release, Scherlen is the former CEO of Austin Hose and a board member for the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle. During his time as CEO of Austin Hose, Scherlen oversaw operations of locations in Amarillo, San Antonio, Odessa, Corpus Christi, and Wichita, Kansas.

Scherlen says he will place focus on issues like keeping taxes low, improved service to local residents, and availability and access at City Hall during his campaign.

Scherlen is seeking the seat currently held by Councilman Eddy Sauer. Sauer, a two-term Amarillo Matters-backed incumbent, has not yet announced whether he will seek re-election.

Candidates can begin filing for spots on the ballot on January 13th and Election Day is May 1.
