State Rep. Four Price joined a majority of House members in Austin this week in defeating a measure that would have prevented Democrats from chairing House committees.
A roll call vote published in the House’s general reports show Price and State Rep. John Smithee (R-Amarillo) voted against an amendment to HR4 that would have required members of the majority party in the House to chair House committees. The measure was defeated 11-27.
The measure’s failure means that despite Republicans holding a majority in the Texas House, Democrats will be eligible to chair House committees. The measure’s defeat garnered significant opposition from conservatives, but just eleven Republicans supported the item’s passage.
