Amarillo College Board of Regents member Patrick Miller is retiring after serving one term in office.
Over the weekend, Miller announced on social media that he would not be seeking a second term on the Amarillo College Board of Regents. Miller, a local educator and president of the Amarillo Branch NAACP, was first elected to the Board of Regents in 2015, in an election that saw one incumbent lose his seat.
With Miller leaving office, that means at least one seat will be open for interested candidates this year. The seats held by incumbents Anette Carlisle and Daniel Henke will also be up for re-election this year. Carlisle has already announced her campaign for re-election, while Henke has not yet announced his plans for May.
Each member who is elected this year will win a six-year term on the Board of Regents.
Candidates who are interested in running for seats on the board can file their applications for the ballot until Friday, February 12. Election Day is May 1.
