Place 2 Amarillo City Councilwoman Freda Powell wants another two years in office.
On Monday, Powell announced that she will seek re-election in the May 2021 election, going for her third term on the City Council. Powell, an Amarillo mortuary manager, was first elected to the City Council in 2017, becoming the first African-American woman to serve on the body. She was re-elected in 2019, albeit by a smaller margin than her first election.
Powell already has a challenger in her bid for re-election, coming in the form of Amarillo College administrative assistant Joe West.
Filing for spots on the ballot begins January 13. Election Day is May 1.
