Four Republican candidates for governor filed their applications for spots on the ballot on Tuesday, according to the Republican Party of Texas.
Gov. Greg Abbott filed to run for re-election to the state’s top job on Tuesday, seeking his third term in office. For the first time in his political career, however, Abbott will be facing a formidable field of primary challengers in his run for re-election.
Also on Tuesday, former Texas Republican Party Chairman Allen West filed his application to run for governor. In addition to West, businessman Danny Harrison and philanthropist Kandy Kay Horn filed their applications to run for governor.
Thus far, the two other major candidates in the primary — former State Sen. Don Huffines and comedian Chad Prather — have not filed their applications for the ballot.
Candidates have until December 13 to file their applications for spots on the ballot. Primary Election Day is scheduled for March 1, 2022.
