A new candidate has filed to run for Amarillo mayor.
On Monday, the Amarillo City Secretary’s office announced Carl Karas has filed his application to run for the top position on the Amarillo City Council. Karas’ LinkedIn page describes him as a freelance blogger and architect.
Karas joins incumbent Ginger Nelson, businessman Michael Hunt, and paralegal Claudette Smith in the race for mayor. A fifth candidate, Jeffrey McElreath, has suspended his campaign and endorsed Hunt in the race.
Candidates have until Friday, February 12 to file for a spot on the ballot. Election Day is May 1.
