U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) has drawn his first challenger for the 2022 election cycle.
Earlier this month, Wichita Falls attorney Kathleen Brown announced her candidacy for Jackson’s congressional seat in the 2022 election. Brown is seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat, according to her Federal Election Commission filing.
Brown’s website highlights issues such as mental health, the economy, education, and climate change as some of the priorities she plans to address on the campaign trail.
With her announcement, Brown is the first candidate so far to launch a campaign against Jackson next year. Jackson was first elected in 2020, winning a competitive primary runoff election against lobbyist Josh Winegarner and the general election against Democrat Gus Trujillo and Libertarian Jack B. Westbrook.
Candidates can file to run for office through December. The primary elections in Texas are currently scheduled to be held in March.
