Former State Sen. Don Huffines is taking aim at Gov. Greg Abbott ahead of the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election, saying that he is the clear candidate who supports former President Donald Trump on the ballot.

In a statement, Huffines took aim at Abbott, saying that while Abbott has failed to secure the southern border of Texas, he will work to accomplish the Trump agenda and finish the wall.

“My family and I have supported President Trump since 2016. My brother and I raised money for him, my children worked on his campaigns, and we continue to be staunch supporters of the president's mission to put America First,” Huffines said. “I am the clear Trump candidate in the Texas governor's race. Governor Abbott is unable to say the same and actively worked against President Trump on the most critical issue facing Texas: the southern border. Texas Primary voters and Trump supporters will decide for themselves who will lead our state forward, and who has failed Texans repeatedly on issues that matter the most.”

Huffines is currently seeking the Republican nomination for Governor over Abbott, who is seeking his third term in office. Comedian Chad Prather, attorney Paul Belew, and military veteran Kurt Schwab are also in the Republican race for governor.

The primary election for the job will be held early next year.
