Abbott Appoints Cobos to Public Utility Commission of Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott announced the appointment of Lori Cobos to the Public Utility Commission of Texas on Thursday.

According to Abbott’s office, Cobos was tapped to served on the Commission for a term set to expire on September 1, 2021. Cobos has served as Chief Executive and Public Counsel for the Office of Public Utility Counsel since April 2019. She is also a graduate of Sul Ross University and Texas Tech University.

In a statement, Abbott said Cobos has the right knowledge and experience to be an effective member of the Commission as a new appointee.

"I am proud to appoint Lori Cobos to the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and I know that she will draw upon her wealth of experience and knowledge to faithfully serve the people of Texas," Abbott said. "Throughout her career, Lori has gleaned valuable experience in the power and utility industries, and her most recent leadership role at OPUC makes her a perfect choice for the Public Utility Commission."

According to the Governor’s Office, the Commission is responsible for the regulation of the state's electric, water, wastewater, and telecommunications utility industries. The Commission also implements respective legislation, and offers customer assistance in resolving complaints.
