Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has announced his plans to seek re-election to his office in 2022.
On Monday, Miller announced his campaign for re-election, saying on social media, “Being your Texas Agriculture Commissioner is the best job in the world.” With his announcement, Miller enters the 2022 Texas Agriculture Commissioner’s race with the incumbent advantage, currently facing just one primary challenger — economics professor and rancher Casey A. Counsil.
Miller’s announcement also provides one fewer potential candidate in the race for Texas Governor, as Miller had previously been speculated as a possible contender for the office next year. The race, which currently includes incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott, former State Sen. Don Huffines, comedian Chad Prather, attorney Paul Belew, and veteran Kurt Schwab could get another big entrant later this year, depending on what decision will be made by outgoing Republican Party of Texas Chairman Allen West, who has also been speculated as a potential candidate.
Candidates have until December to announce their campaigns for office. The primary elections for 2022 will likely be held in early-to-mid 2022.
