Mattie Parker has won the election to serve as Fort Worth’s new mayor, replacing the retiring incumbent, Betsy Price.

On Saturday, voters in Fort Worth elected Parker, a former chief of staff to Price, to the job with 53 percent of the vote. Her opponent in the runoff, former Tarrant County Democratic Party chair Deborah Peoples, received 47 percent of the vote.

With her victory, Parker, 37, will now become Fort Worth’s youngest mayor and the city’s first millennial mayor. Parker’s victory also signaled a win for Republicans in the area, after the runoff was fought largely along party lines in the final days of the campaign.
