U.S. Rep. Kay Granger is getting a primary challenge again this year in the form of former Colleyville City Councilman Chris Putnam.

Putnam announced this week that he will again challenge Granger for her U.S. House seat in 2022, setting up a competitive Republican primary for the North Texas congressional district. Putnam challenged Granger in the Republican primary in 2020, winning 42 percent of the vote against the 23-year incumbent.

However, Putnam will not be the only Republican on the ballot against Granger in the 12th Congressional District. Republican Chris Rector will also be running in next year’s primary election.

The 12th Congressional District currently includes portions of Tarrant, Parker, and Wise counties. The district borders the 13th Congressional District in Wise, which is currently represented by Amarillo Republican Ronny Jackson. The boundaries of both districts may change as a result of redistricting, which is expected to occur later this year.

Voters will decide this primary early next year.
