Amarillo Police say a teenager has died following a crash involving a local restaurant.

According to APD, on August 3, at 12:52am, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Canyon Drive on a crash involving a vehicle and a building. A silver Nissan car lost control and struck the La Campana restaurant. The driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers reported on Friday, August 13, that the 16-year-old driver involved in this crash has died. The incident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Unit.

Detectives believe the driver of the Nissan car was racing another vehicle southbound on Canyon Drive before exiting, losing control, and striking the building.
