ENMU Taps West Texas Native as New Chancellor

Eastern New Mexico University regents have named Dr. James N. Johnston to serve as the new chancellor of the ENMU system.

According to Eastern New Mexico University, Johnston, who currently serves as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Midwestern State University, has held several academic leadership positions throughout his career. In his current role, he oversaw Midwestern State University’s transition to become a member of the Texas Tech University System.

Johnston is a native of Slaton and his wife is a native of Las Cruces. He holds degrees from South Plains College, Midwestern State University, and Texas Women’s University, including a Ph.D. in health studies from TWU.

Johnston will officially take the reins as chancellor on January 3, 2023.
