Texas A&M Chancellor to Retire

John Sharp, chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, has announced his retirement.

According to Texas A&M, Sharp will be officially retiring in 2025. His retirement will cap off what has been the longest tenure for a chancellor in the university system’s history.

“We’ve done some amazing things, and over the next year there’s going to be some more amazing things, and I’m not sure after this next year it can be topped,” Sharp told the Texas Tribune. “It seemed to be a pretty good time to say, hey, it’s been a great ride, and it’s time for someone else to take the reins.”

Sharp has overseen the Texas A&M University System since 2011. Prior to his appointment, Sharp served in both houses of the Texas Legislature and later served as Comptroller of Public Accounts.

The Texas A&M University System includes state-funded colleges across Texas, including West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
