Eastern New Mexico University announced this week that the school’s athletic director is stepping down to take a position at Abilene Christian University.

According to ENMU, Dr. Paul Weir announced his departure from the school, effective December 1. Weir is leaving the school to take a leadership position at ACU in Abilene, Texas.

“Thank you Greyhounds,” Weir said in a statement. “I am so grateful to everyone in our community who has supported my family and me for the past three years. Moving to this part of the state was a blessing I will cherish forever.”

Under Dr. Weir’s tenure, ENMU says the school’s athletic programs have seen tremendous successes — both inside the classroom and on the field. During his time at the school, student athletes have maintained a cumulative GPA above 3.0 in almost every semester for the past two years. In addition, ENMU was recognized with the Lone Star Conference’s Academic Championship for having the highest GPA of any football program in the conference.

In addition to academic success for student athletes, Weir also oversaw the relaunch of ENMU’s men’s soccer program.

ENMU will begin a national search for the school’s next athletic director in the near future.
