The City of Amarillo recently published a website breaking down how funds received as a part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) have been spent. According to the city’s figures, the largest two items were “Lost City Revenue” and “Citywide Internet Broadband Access,” which cost $11.2 million and $6 million respectively.
Some residents are not pleased. Retired businessman and former City Council candidate Tom Scherlen expressed concern over the validity of the explanation on social media.
In his post, Scherlen said that “when the City tries explaining something after the fact it probably does not meet the smell test.”
