2022 is a busy election year here in Texas. We’ve already had the March 1st primary election, but there are still three more elections set to be held this year. With two of those elections both occurring in May, it’s a good time to go through when each election will take place and what will be on each ballot.
The big election of the year is of course the November general election. This election will be the final contest for those who won their primary (and, in some cases, runoff) elections earlier this year. Important dates to keep in mind for this election are:
Last day to register to vote: October 11th
Early Voting: October 24th - November 4th
Last day to apply for a ballot by mail: October 28th
Election Day: November 8th
For May, the first election will be the May uniform election, which will feature both local propositions and State of Texas Constitutional amendments. Locally, voters in the Amarillo ISD voting boundaries will decide on a set of four bonds totalling $285.9 million. These bonds will be labeled Propositions A, B, C, and D on the ballot. All voters in Texas will also see Propositions 1 and 2, which are both State of Texas Constitutional amendments. Information about the constitutional amendments can be found at the Texas Secretary of State website. Important dates to keep in mind for this election are:
Last day to register to vote: April 7th
Early Voting: April 25th - May 3rd
Last day to apply for a ballot by mail: April 26th
Election Day: May 7th
The second election in May will be the May runoff election. This election will feature races where no candidate in the March 1st primary election got a majority. This includes several statewide races, including Attorney General and Railroad Commissioner, as well as several local races. Elections for precinct level political party offices will also be on the ballot. Important dates to keep in mind for this election are:
Last day to register to vote: April 25th
Early Voting: May 16th - May 20th
Last day to apply for a ballot by mail: May 13th
Election Day: May 24th
