The first candidate to announce their candidacy for the open seat for Mayor of Amarillo is Tonya Winston, a local entrepreneur. Winston, who is also known as “Lady Butterscotch,” kicked off her campaign at an event at the Amarillo Cultural Center.

During a speech at the event, Winston noted that she “was born and raised” in Amarillo. Winston also stated that “it’s time to make a U-turn.”

As for the Amarillo Civic Center, which has become one of the most hot-button local issues in recent years, Winston said “needs to be renovated.”

Winston also talked bout how she feels it is important to focus on all parts of Amarillo. “This is not all about me. This about the city, and the people and the children who live in this city, in the east, in the west, the north, and the south sides of town.”

More information about Winston’s campaign can be found on her social media accounts, including her profile “T-Noi Winston” and her TikTok @onebutterscotch.

Filing for the ballot officially opens on January 18th. Election Day is May 6th.
