The Potter County Republican Chairman may be seeking re-election in 2024, after all.
Chairman Dan Rogers confirmed on Sunday afternoon that he is now considering re-joining the race for Republican chairman. Rogers announced in August that he would not be seeking re-election and instead announced a campaign for Texas House District 87. However, Rogers dropped his House candidacy last week, endorsing an unnamed person who called a “promising young candidate” for the position.
“I’ve had a lot of people calling me and telling me, ‘We’re so glad you’re staying as our chairman,’” Rogers said. “So, I’m thinking about running again.”
Rogers highlighted the issue of bringing paper ballots back to Potter County as the main reason he is considering running for county chairman again.
“I am strongly considering running again as a few things remain to be done,” Rogers said. “The most important of which is to get Potter County back to hand-marked, self-authenticated, tangible ballots that can be verified.” Rogers went on to say that he hopes to be able to accomplish this goal with the county commissioners and if they choose to oppose this initiative, “We can replace them in the upcoming primary.”
Rogers said he plans to have an announcement about his candidacy in the coming week.
Thus far, no candidates have publicly announced a campaign for the position. Filing for the office begins next month. The Republican primary election is scheduled for March 5, 2024.
