U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) has thrown his weight behind Florida Rep. Byron Donalds to be the next Speaker of the House.
On Twitter, Jackson announced his backing of Donalds to succeed Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker, saying the candidate has his “full support.”
“Byron’s record is stellar, and he’s laser focused on enacting a STRONG conservative agenda,” Jackson wrote. “Byron will make all of us PROUD.”
Jackson originally supported Jim Jordan for Speaker, but Jordan’s candidacy was dropped last week after he failed to garner the votes necessary to win the speakership. Voters may remember Donalds as one of the names floated by conservatives as an alternative to McCarthy earlier this year, though Donalds never formally launched his bid for speaker.
