U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo) has announced his pick to replace Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
On Thursday, Jackson issued a news release announcing that he would be backing Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan to be the next Speaker of the House.
“I am proud to give my full support for Congressman Jim Jordan to become the next Speaker of the House,” Jackson said in a statement. “He is America First, a champion for President Trump, and will work to secure our border, cut spending, and continue investigating the corrupt Biden administration.”
Jackson’s endorsement of Jordan comes almost a year after Jackson told supporters at a Conservative Patriots for Texas meeting in Amarillo that he believed Jordan would make a good House speaker. However, Jackson eventually backed McCarthy for the position after Republicans took control of the House earlier this year.
Aside from Jordan, also running for House Speaker on the Republican side are Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise.
