President Joe Biden has drawn his first opponent for the 2024 Democratic primary in Texas.
According to the Texas Secretary of State, Armando "Mando" Perez-Serrato filed to run against Biden in the 2024 Texas primary election. Perez-Serrato listed his occupation as “educator” on his ballot filing. The candidate also tweeted about filing for the ballot last week, stating that he was at Los Angeles International Airport, waiting to fly to Austin to file his application.
Perez-Serrato previously ran in the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election, winning 1.2 percent of the vote. In 2022, Perez-Serrato also challenged Gov. Gavin Newsom in the primary for California governor, winning 0.6 percent of the vote.
Ballot filing is also open in several other states. According to candidate filings, Perez-Serrato has filed in at least one other state’s primary — New Hampshire. Interestingly, Biden’s name will not appear on the New Hampshire primary ballot.
Candidate filing will continue through Monday, December 11. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
