True Texas Project Now Recommending Against Prop 12

True Texas Project, a conservative activist organization, is now advocating voting against the Proposition 12 amendment to the Texas Constitution.

The proposition would “abolish the office of County Treasurer in Galveston County,” according to an explanatory statement published by the state. The functions of the office would still be performed by someone appointed by the county’s commissioners court.

True Texas Project had originally advocated for passing the measure, citing the fact that it would result in “one less government position.” However, conservative activists in the area reportedly pushed back against the endorsement. According to the True Texas Project, the activists “said they don’t want the position to be dissolved because there will be no more accountability to the office and it will be handed to cronies.”
