Voters in Hereford backed a measure on Tuesday night to construct a new baseball and softball complex.
According to unofficial election results, Hereford voters backed the measure to build the new facility, with 64 percent voting in favor. The item picked up its largest share of support on Election Day, when nearly 70 percent of voters backed the item.
Hereford’s Proposition A allows the City of Hereford and the Hereford Economic Development Corporation to combine funds to build the $6.5 million facility. The facility will include four new fields for baseball and softball games.
Ahead of the vote, officials from the City of Hereford pledged that no tax increase would be necessary to pay for the project. City of Hereford leaders also campaigned hard for the proposition, which they said was needed in their community.
“Hereford needs this for the kids so that the kids can come out there and be proud of where they are playing on, be proud to bring people to Hereford,” Hereford Mayor Cathy Bunch told NewsChannel 10 ahead of the vote. “To say, ‘This is my complex, my town was proud enough to make something for me like this.’ And that’s what it’s about. It’s about the kids and having a place for them to play.”
