Certain annuitants of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas are about to see a cost-of-living adjustment.
According to unofficial election results, Texas voters backed Proposition 9, which provides for a one-time cost-of-living adjustment for certain TRS retirees. 83 percent of voters backed the measure, with all Texas counties voting to pass the cost-of-living increase.
Notably, Proposition 9 also received the highest vote share in favor of passage of any amendment on the ballot on Tuesday night.
With the item’s passage, retired teachers will now see a cost-of-living adjustment of between 2 and 6 percent next year. Teachers who retired before August 2001 will see an increase of 6 percent, while those who retired between August 2001 and August 2013 will see a 4 percent increase. Those who retired between August 2013 and August 2020 will see a 2 percent increase.
