When it comes to where the candidates for the 108th District Court bench got their law degrees, the Hub City’s finest university comes out on top.

According to information provided by the State Bar of Texas, two Texas Tech University School of Law graduates — Joe Marr Wilson and Pamela Sirmon — are running in the upcoming Republican primary for the 108th District Court. Meanwhile, the other two candidates in the race — Sam Silverman and Tim Pirtle — graduated from the University of Houston and the University of Mississippi, respectively.

The number of Texas Tech grads in the race isn’t particularly surprising, as a number of local judges also attended the school. Between Potter and Randall counties, there are currently five district court judges serving on the bench in the Amarillo area. According to the State Bar of Texas, three of these judges went to Texas Tech. The other two judges attended Baylor University and St. Mary’s University, respectively.

Ultimately, voters will get to decide which school will gain another judicial alumnus when Potter County holds its Republican primary election on March 5, 2024.
