James “Jim” Matlock is officially on the ballot, challenging incumbent Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick in next year’s Republican primary election.
Matlock filed on Thursday to seek the Republican nomination for one of three seats on the Railroad Commission. According to his candidate profile provided by Take Texas Back, Matlock is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who also has 18 years of experience in the oil and gas field. The guiding quote of Matlock’s campaign is, “Don't tell me there's an energy crisis when I am still seeing waste.” Matlock says he is running to reduce oilfield waste.
Thus far, only Craddick and Matlock are seeking the Republican primary for the seat. Democrat Bill Burch has also filed for the position.
The Texas Railroad Commission is a three-member regulatory body that oversees oil and gas production in the Lone Star State. Along with Craddick, the other commissioners are Republicans Jim Wright and Wayne Christian.
Candidate filing will continue through Monday. The Republican primary is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
