Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has filed for the Republican primary ballot in Texas.

According to the Republican Party of Texas, Christie filed his application on Friday to appear on the state’s presidential primary ballot in 2024. Christie is the sixth candidate to file for the presidential primary ballot, joining a crowded lineup that also includes former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Ambassador Nikki Haley, businessman David Stuckenberg, and pastor Ryan L. Binkley.

Christie, a former United States Attorney and governor who also sought the Republican nomination in 2016, is centering his campaign this year on his opposition to Trump. According to recent polling out of Texas, Christie has been garnering the support of about 3 percent of voters.

With Christie’s filing, only two remaining major presidential hopefuls have not yet filed for the ballot: businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
