Several Canyon Races Could Be Removed from Ballot

While it is too late to file for a place on the May 6th ballot (the deadline was February 17th), prospective candidates may still file a declaration of a write-in candidacy by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21st. According to state law, write-in candidates must file in order for their votes to be counted.

Write-in candidates could change the landscape of several races in Canyon. As of writing, it appears all five places on the Canyon City Commission are uncontested, as only one person has filed for a place on the ballot in each race. Additionally, Canyon ISD Board of Trustees Place 1 incumbent Paul Blake is currently unopposed in his race. If no write-in candidates file, those races may not be included on the ballot.

Those interested in filing to be a write-in candidate can download a declaration of write-in candidacy form from the Texas Secretary of State’s website by clicking here. As always, The Amarillo Pioneer invites all filed candidates, including declared write-ins, to participate in our voter guide and candidate forums.
