Representative Smithee Announces Reelection Bid

State representative John Smithee (R-Amarillo) announced today he will seek another term in office.

Smithee has served as the representative for District 86 since 1985, making him one of the longest serving incumbents in Austin.

In a statement, Smithee said he plans “to provide a steady hand, assist in unifying our Party, and help set a course for strong Republican victories in Novembers to come and beyond.”

Smithee was one of 23 Republicans who voted against impeaching Attorney General Ken Paxton earlier this year. Smithee was joined in voting against the impeachment by fellow Amarillo legislator Four Price, who is not seeking reelection.

House District 86 includes Randall County, as well as Armstrong, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Hartley, Oldham, and Parmer counties. Smithee will face at least one primary challenger on the March 5th ballot. Realtor Jaime Haynes announced her candidacy earlier this year.
