Eric Trump was in Amarillo on Saturday night, speaking to a packed crowd at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex.
Trump — the son of former President Donald Trump — spoke after brief remarks at the Amarillo Lincoln-Reagan Dinner by U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, former State Sen. Don Huffines, State Rep. John Smithee, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. During his speech, Trump discussed the criminal charges leveled at his father and what he said has been the weaponization of agencies like the FBI and the Department of Justice. Trump also discussed how social media has censored conservatives across the board.
At the close of his speech, Trump declared that his father will win the 2024 election and promised attendees that they would be proud of the work he will do in the White House. Emcee Pat Swindell then thanked Trump for his father’s appointment of three conservative justices to the United States Supreme Court. At this point in the evening, all attendees were on their feet, giving Trump a standing ovation.
Trump’s speech marked a rare appearance by a presidential campaign’s top surrogate in Amarillo. However, based on the enthusiasm for Trump’s speech, the former president is likely to have strong support in the Panhandle on Super Tuesday.
Aside from Trump, a number of other statewide and local primary candidates were also in attendance. Among those in attendance from the statewide ballot were Texas Supreme Court Justice John P. Devine and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Judges Sharon Keller and Michelle Slaughter, all of whom are running for re-election in 2024.
