New Forecast Shows Tight U.S. Senate Race in Texas

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz might just be in for the fight of his political life.

According to a new forecast from Cook Political Report, the U.S. Senate race in Texas between Cruz and Democratic challenger Rep. Colin Allred — which was once considered a safe Republican contest — has now been rated as “Leans Republican.” This rating essentially means that while Cruz is favored to win, forecasters believe the race is still anyone’s contest.

The new forecast shift comes as Cruz, who is seeking his third term in the U.S. Senate, has led narrowly in most polls. However, a poll released last month showed Cruz trailing Allred, though the poll’s margin of error could have contributed to that result.

Libertarian Ted Brown is also running against Cruz and Allred.

This election will be decided on November 5.
