Randall County Republican Chairman Kelly Giles has thrown his hat into the ring to be the next vice chair of the Republican Party of Texas.
Giles, a Canyon area cattle rancher and businessman, told supporters at a meeting of Conservative Patriots 4 Texas on Thursday night that he is seeking the position. Giles is hoping to replace Vice Chair Dana Myers, who is seeking the chairmanship of the state party.
First appointed to his position as county chair in 2023, Giles was re-elected over two challengers in the March primary election, winning 51 percent of the vote. Giles previously ran for Randall County Commissioner in 2022, losing an extremely close race against Commissioner Rusty Carnes.
Delegates to the Republican Party of Texas Convention will elect the new chair and vice chair of the state party during the state convention in San Antonio next month.
